The sculptor José Luis Fernández began his training in the workshop of his uncles, Carlos and Luis Fernández, masters in wood carving, and began his career making two carvings in Romanesque style for the church of Santa María de Narzana (Asturias). He learned stone sculpture in the workshop of Jorge Jordán, and furthered his training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Oviedo. Fernandez made his solo debut in 1973, with two exhibitions in Madrid and Oviedo, and since then he has held personal exhibitions throughout Spain, as well as participating, since 1964, in group exhibitions, art fairs and biennials, both in Spain and in Switzerland, Iran, United Kingdom, Belgium, France and Canada.
