Juan de Arellano was born in Santorcaz in 1614. Arellano specialised in flower still lifes early in his career. He was influenced by the early 17th century Flemish and Italian works of this genre in the collections of the Spanish aristocracy and the court collection of Madrid. Despite this, he was still able to develop his own unique style which appears in its mature state during the 1660's. Arellano opened an art dealership in Calle Atocha in Madrid in around 1646 where he sold both his own works and those of other artists. Juan Arellano passed away in 1676 in Madrid, Spain.
