Karel Breydel was an elder brother of Frans Breydel, who became court painter in Kassel. In Antwerp, he was a student of Pieter Rijsbreack and then Peter Ykens for three years. He left for a trip to Italy, traveling via Frankfurt and Nuremberg. When Karel heard of his brother's success in Kassel, he abandoned his plans for Italy and traveled instead to Kassel to join his brother. When Karel heard of his brother's success in Kassel, he abandoned his plans for Italy and traveled instead to Kassel to join his brother. Here the two brothers worked together for two years with considerable success. Breydel then traveled to Amsterdam, returning to Antwerp in 1703, where he became master of the Saint Luke's Guild in 1704. In 1723 he is mentioned in Brussels and in 1726 in Ghent.
