From 1961 to 1964 he trained as a chaser at the state higher technical school for the precious metal trade in Schwäbisch Gmünd. He then studied with Hans Wimmer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg until 1966. In 1967 he moved to the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin (today University of the Arts Berlin) to Bernhard Heiliger, with whom he became a master student in 1969. Since 1970 he has lived and worked as a freelance sculptor in the Weinstadt district of Strümpfelbach.
