Louis Laffitea was born in 1770. Louis Lafitte was a French painter and draughtsman who studied with Gilles Demarteau and Jean Baptiste Regnault. Louis was admitted to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in Paris, and he was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome for painting in 1791. He was the last painter sent to Rome during the reign of Louis XVI. In 1796, he supplied twelve drawings for the Republican Calendar.
