Wheeler, with whom she had studied in Providence, Herreshoff began study in France at the Academy Julian as a student of Benjamin Constant and Jean Paul Laurens. Staying abroad until 1903, she also sketched and painted in Holland, Italy, Switzerland and the British Isles. She went back to Providence and painted in the environs of New England.
