There he began his studies as a concrete artist, inspired greatly by Mondrian. After settling in Paris in 1957, where Op Art had become prevalent, he started working in relief, moving away from the linear nature of geometric abstraction, and directing his interest to form and color effects. Tomasello was fascinated by the reflection of color on surfaces, which gave way to the play with light and shadows seen in his work through out the rest of his career.
