Melchior Fritsch (1826-1889), a native of Vienna, began training at the drawing school of the Academy. He was an autodidact in painting and continued his training during journeys to Tyrol, Styria, Italy, the Orient, Paris and Germany. He was represented in the exhibitions of the Wiener Kunstverein since 1851 as well as occasionally exhibiting in Paris in 1867 and in Berlin in 1886. He was represented in the exhibitions of the Wiener Kunstverein since 1851 as well as occasionally exhibiting in Paris in 1867 and in Berlin in 1886. Fritsch is represented in the Academy in Vienna and the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck. The Historical Museum in Vienna preserves his lithographs. He was a member of the founding committee of the Patriotischer Verein der Künstler Wiens (Patriotic Association of Artists Vienna). (tm)
