Nathaniel Choate was an American artist born in 1902. He studied painting in Paris before deciding to pursue sculpture after a trip to Greece. He gained critical notice for his small sculptures of animals and native portrait heads inspired by his travels to Morocco, the Sudan, and elsewhere. Choate also worked on relief sculptures for various commissions, including the Federal Building at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Pittman, New Jersey, post office. He gained critical notice for his small sculptures of animals and native portrait heads inspired by his travels to Morocco, the Sudan, and elsewhere. Choate also worked on relief sculptures for various commissions, including the Federal Building at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Pittman, New Jersey, post office. He taught at the summer school of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and privately in New York. Choate also had an interest in ceramics and established the Aldham Kilns in Aldham, Pennsylvania. He exhibited his work at the National Academy and executed murals for the Calypso... He gained critical notice for his small sculptures of animals and native portrait heads inspired by his travels to Morocco, the Sudan, and elsewhere. Choate also worked on relief sculptures for various commissions, including the Federal Building at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Pittman, New Jersey, post office. He taught at the summer school of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and privately in New York.
