Paul Lucien Dessau was a London-born artist who began his career in the arts working for a commercial art studio before opening his own design studio with his brother. He furthered his studies with classes at the Hornsey School of Art and the Central School of Art and Design. During World War II, Dessau joined the Auxiliary Fire Service, which became the National Fire Service in 1941. After the war, Dessau and his wife moved to the country where he became a sought after portrait artist and received many lucrative commissions. Paintings by Dessau are found in numerous prominent private and public collections including the London Fire Brigade Museum, the Museum of London and the Yale Center for British Art.
