In 1896-97 Paul Theophile studied under the English decorator Clement Heaton in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and in 1898-99 with Vaud Eugène Burnand in Montpellier, France. His studies led him then to Florence and Paris. In 1907, he returned to the homeland and was connected to the local art scene, repeatedly traveling to Switzerland and Germany.
