He further developed his style in Paris from 1898 before returning to London to teach at the Lambeth School of Art. It was during this time he received a number of notable commissions, including a large panel for the HMS Queen Mary and murals for Windsor castle. He was elected to the RA in 1925 and was appointed the Keeper of the Academy, a position he held through the end of the 1940s. Miss Mimpriss was a favorite subject of Connard and he painted her portrait on at least five occasions. In 1923, she married and her name changed to Mrs. Benge.
