During his early adult life he lived in Kibbutz Lahavot Habashan. In 1962, he left the Kibbutz and began to study drawing under Marcel Janco and sculpture under Michael Gross at the Oranim Seminar. In 1967, following a leave of absence five years prior due to financial issues, he re-enrolled for studies at the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem.
