Early in life he attended a military school and studied at the AIC. He later was associated with the Roycroft Studios in New York where his mother ran a weaving school. After joining the Navy at the outbreak of WWI, he was sent to San Diego, CA. Upon discharge, he settled in Los Angeles where his paintings were handled by the Bernay Gallery.
