The year he was born, this area was ravaged by the Sino-Japanese war. Two years later his parents fled to Taiwan, leaving Ting behind in Beijing with his grandparents who were suffering greatly from the poverty inflicted upon them by the government. Ting turned to painting and by age 11 was painting every day with cooking oil as a medium for his pigment. Despite his dire situation, he exhibited such remarkable talent that in 1954 he was invited to attend a prestigious high school... Read full biography
