After the war he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and continued in Paris with Fernand Leger. In 1951 he went to Germany to teach at Werkkunstschule Wuppertal. Primarily a sculptor, he also was a painter and cinemaphotographer. In 1955 he won a Golden Palm at Cannes for his short film "The Vipers."
