From his large-scale site-specific installations that envelop actual buildings with derelict lumber to more intimate interior constructions, Kawamata challenges the notion of stability by confronting the viewer with ordinary materials used in an extraordinary fashion. At age 28 Kawamata Tadashi was selected to exhibit at the Venice Biennale and he has gone on to participate to high acclaim in other international exhibitions including Documenta and Art Basel.
