After an apprenticeship as a mechanic he studied from 1926 to 1930 at the School of Applied Arts in Frankfurt, where, among others, Max Beckmann was his teacher. Thanks to several grants Garvé traveled to Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg. In 1938 and 1939 he trained in graphic techniques. Thanks to several grants Garvé traveled to Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg. In 1938 and 1939 he trained in graphic techniques. In 1941 he was drafted into military service and after the war he was involved in the reconstruction of the Städel School in Frankfurt. In 1956 Garvé obtained a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. The artist died in 1987.(fea)
