Theo Wolvecamp was born in Hengelo in 1925. The artist was already inspired by the Expressionists and Kandinsky's book Concerning the Spiritual in Art at a young age. He began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnheim, but left just after having been there for a short time. Wolvecamp (also spelled Wolvekamp) went to Amsterdam in 1947, where various artists such as Corneille, Karel Appel and Constant became aware of him. He began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnheim, but left just after having been there for a short time. Wolvecamp (also spelled Wolvekamp) went to Amsterdam in 1947, where various artists such as Corneille, Karel Appel and Constant became aware of him. Together they founded the Experimentele Groep in Holland, from which CoBrA evolved later. After having been to Paris and Amsterdam, Wolvecamp retreated to the rural province of Overijssel. His former housing in Hengelo is now a center for art and artist. He died in 1992.... Read full biography
