Werner Laves began his artistic career in 1919 at the State School of Applied Arts in Weimar and studied at the State School of Applied Arts in Munich from 1920. Between 1923 and 1928 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and was a master student of Carl Hofer. After graduating in 1929, he took part in the jury-free art exhibition and the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession. Werner Laves began his artistic career in 1919 at the State School of Applied Arts in Weimar and studied at the State School of Applied Arts in Munich from 1920. Between 1923 and 1928 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and was a master student of Carl Hofer. After graduating in 1929, he took part in the jury-free art exhibition and the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession. His studio was destroyed by bombs during the war, and in 1948 he accepted a call to the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Up until the 1960s he continued to take part in exhibitions, including those organized by the Deutscher Künstlerbund and the Neue Gruppe Berlin.
