His first major commission was decorating the auditorium of the Breslau Technical University. He later worked in Berlin as a draughtsman and commercial artist. After being wounded in World War I, he moved to Mannheim, painting scenes of the Schwetzingen palace gardens and Mannheim buildings, while continuing commercial art work, including for the Maggi company.
