In 1952 he took evening classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. In 1953 he began his studies of sculpture under the guidance of Walter Arnold, Gerd Jaeger and Hans Steger. During this time, he made acquaintance with the representatives of the ‘verbotene klassische Moderne’ [forbidden classic modern era] and met Bernard Heiliger in West Berlin. In 1959 Förster became a master student of Fritz Cremer in East Berlin. From 1961 he created sculptures in his Berlin studio; moreover, he worked on his premises at Oranienburg in Brandenburg.
