His landscape painting was done with fine and delicate strokes, classical, long roll, style. The trees were very lifelike and vivid. In 1927, he began study under Wang Tongyu, a former scholar-official of the imperial court i the Qing period who had settled at Nanxiang, and under Shanghai painter Feng Chaoran on the recommendation of Wang.
