Ladell's pictures are always easily recognizable, as he used the same props in most of his paintings, such as a bird's nest, a casket or carved mug. His wife, Ellen Ladell, worked from 1856 -1898, she also painted in a style almost identical to her husband's. She usually signed with her full name, whereas Edward used the EL monogram back to back.
