Ferdinand Olivier was born in 1785 in Dessau. From 1801/02 he took lessons with the landscape painter Carl Wilhelm Kolbe d. J. and the engraver Johann Christian Haldenwang in Dessau. After his studies, Oliver stayed from 1804-1806 in Dresden and then from 1807-1809 stayed in Paris. He executed commissioned work for Duke Leopold III. Then from 1811-1830 he stayed in Vienna.
