Ferdinand Richardt, whose full name was Joachim Ferdinand Richardt, was born in Brede, Denmark, just north of Copenhagen, and studied at the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen with Bertel Thorvaldsen, Gustav Hetsch, and J.L.Lund.
