He spent a lot of time in circles of first generation Croatian naïve artists such as Krsto Hegedušic, Franjo Mraz, Mirko Virius and his uncle Ivan Generalic. They all gathered as part of the group/forum "Zemlja" (meaning Earth) since 1930. He had his first exhibition in 1946.
