Mock made an early trip to Brown County around 1910 and was surprised to find a relatively thriving artists colony there. He returned again ten years later at which point he made regular painting trips, often hanging out with his friend, photographer Frank Hohenberger. Mock was a frequent Hoosier Salon exhibitor.
