He was born in Bavaria, Germany, and emigrated to New York in 1865 with his wife and seven children. By 1870, he was exhibiting paintings at the National Academy of Design and at the Boston Athenaeum. He lived primarily in Brooklyn until his death in 1896. His name was frequently misspelled as "Foster". He exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association in 1879... Read full biography
