Inez Estella Hoyton, nee Crowther, was born in Winchester in 1914. She studied at Leeds College of Art where she met the etcher and painter Edward Bouverie Hoyton who she married in 1935. After a spell teaching, they moved to Cornwall where he was made principal of the Penzance School of Art in 1941, associating with many of the key artists of the day such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson.
