Joseph Nigg (Austrian 1782 ñ 1863) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Johann Baptist Drechsler. He was one most important painters of flowers and fruit on porcelain in the first half of the 19th century. His delicate brush strokes, color, and finesse were unsurpassed. From 1800 to 1843, Nigg was lead flower painter at the Vienna porcelain factory. In 1835 he began holding classes in painting at the factory.
