He deals in detail with Goethe's theory of colors as well as with Rudolf Steiner's color theory published in 1921. In addition, his artistic work is visibly influenced by the movement of Cubism, later he turned to Expressionism. In 1923 Pfeifer exhibited his work together with Wassily Kandinsky, Otto Dix, Paul Klee and Max Pechstein in the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt. Throughout his life, the examination of color as an artistic means of expression remains decisive for the artist's unmistakable style. Pfeifer's work is shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and in 1966 at the Venice Biennale.
