After a thirty year career in advertising, he began to paint, in 1991, the Eastern Woodland Indian of the 18th century, an early fascination. Robert Griffing was born in 1940, growing up in Linesville, Pennsylvania. Griffing is a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, studying illustration.
