Srihadi Soedarsono was born in Surakarta, Indonesia, in 1931. From 1946-1948, he was involved in creating posters for the Indonesian resistance movement opposing the Dutch occupation of Yogyakarta, and in 1948, he illustrated the Kaliurang peace negotiations that would signify Indonesian independence.
