His enthusiasm for Chinese landscape painting had him put in its beginnings the lyrical moment in the center of his painting. But soon his landscapes changed. They were not "idyllic", but broken up and sinking - and robbed people any refuge. The horrors of war and natural disasters were swept to the focus of his work for decades, and in countless recurring variations he worked off of apocalyptic visions. In 1962 the artist received a teaching position at the Academy of Applied Arts in Istanbul. One of his major works is there, the images in the St. George Church in the Austrian College. From...
