Carl Roux, a German painter, was the son of the master painter and draughtsman Jacob Wilhelm Roux and his second wife, Charlotte Mariana Wippermann. Jacob Roux came from an old Huguenot family where his father was a fencing master, and was a sought-after portraitist in Heidelberg.
