Cedric Savage was a New Zealand artist born in Christchurch in 1901. He studied sculpture and modelling at the Canterbury School of Art before enrolling in life drawing classes. Savage worked as a designer and modeller on various buildings before traveling through the Pacific islands where he began painting. He was awarded a solo exhibition in Dunedin in 1933 and was elected Vice President of the New Zealand Society of Artists. Savage settled in Nelson in 1945 and his painting reputation... Savage worked as a designer and modeller on various buildings before traveling through the Pacific islands where he began painting. He was awarded a solo exhibition in Dunedin in 1933 and was elected Vice President of the New Zealand Society of Artists. Savage settled in Nelson in 1945 and his painting reputation developed throughout the 1940s. He left New Zealand for Europe in 1955 to paint free of judgement and spent the next decade traveling and painting abroad. Savage's works are known for their strong use of color and bold compositions
