Curt Victor Clemens Grolig was born in 1805. A native of Munich, protected from the King of Saxony, Grolig is one of the first to have painted Algiers and its surroundings after the conquest. Known for his landscape talent, Grolig exhibited at the Paris Salon number with marine and Algerian landscapes between 1844 and 1859, and at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1855.
