As a child he demonstrated a high level of drawing ability. Much to the consternation of his parents, he used whatever surfaces were available, including his schoolbooks. His enthusiasm for drawing found legitimacy, and better materials, when he became the resident artist of Catholic Central High School’s paper. Also a talented singer, he studied voice there for three years. After graduation, art and music were put on hold when he volunteered for the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. He served four...
