Eugen Segewitz was born in 1886 in Pforzheim. He began his art studies in 1907 at the Karlsruhe Art Academy, with Wilhelm Trübner among others. In 1919, after his military service, he joined the artist group "Rih" (black stallion from the stories of Karl May) and worked as a freelance artist in an expressionist style. In the 1920s he moved to Lake Constance, where he belonged to the group of Höri painters with Otto Dix and Erich Heckel.
