In 1938 he was arrested and executed shortly before he went to visit the New York World's Fair, despite his loyalty to the state. Klucis became famous especially with his political photomontages, which he established next to Hannah Höch, Raoul Hausmann and El Lissitzky, and for which he often acted as a model himself.
