Like many of his generation, he never took himself to the new ideas and continued with a painting depicting a lifetime. Paintings by Kamke occur sporadically at auction and the reason is that he had his main income from portättmåleriet. He was for a long time the Swedish bourgeoisie and aristocracy, a great portrait painter. Nude painting came to be very popular and in demand. Kamke was educated at the Academy in Stockholm with Oscar Björck and Axel Hill as a teacher. In the years, 1906-1912, he spent time abroad for studies.
