Jan van der Meer II has been known by various apelatives including the most famous being Jan Vermeer van Haarlem. A painter of the Dutch Golden Age, he was first noted by landscaping, but also by putting color on the canvas. Secrets of the painter's job would have been taught by his father, Jan Vermeer van Haarlem Senior, and he was an illustrator of landscapes. He later became a follower of Nicolaes Berchem. A painter of the Dutch Golden Age, he was first noted by landscaping, but also by putting color on the canvas. Secrets of the painter's job would have been taught by his father, Jan Vermeer van Haarlem Senior, and he was an illustrator of landscapes. He later became a follower of Nicolaes Berchem. Another interesting thing is that he was the brother of painters Isaac and Barend and married Cornelis Dusart's sister. He spent some of his years in Amsterdam, and then, in 1681-1683, he returned to Harleem, where he joined the St. Luca craftsmen guild.
