Kitty Kielland is considered the first major female Norwegian landscape painter. She came from an artistic and wealthy family in Stavanger. She participated annually at the Autumn Exhibition 1882, and got several pictures accepted at the Paris Salon in Paris six times from 1879-87. Kitty Kielland was one of several artists who summer 1886 gathered at Christian Skredsvig - summer named Fleskumsommeren. She had her first solo exhibition at Blomqvist in 1899.
