Herbo exhibited regularly in Ghent, Brussels and Cologne, as well as at the Munich Salon (1883-1894) and the Paris Salon (1879-1905). Considered one of the most important Belgian portraitists of his time, and co-founder of the "L'Essor" circle in 1876, Léon Herbo was promoted to Chevalier of the Order of Leopold.
