In 1979, she arranged 3200 boulders for her earthwork "Stone Alignments/Solstice Cairns, and in the 1980s made encaustic grids. She was raised as an only child in Los Angeles by a Swiss mother and an Australian father, who often drove her into the desert for family outings.
