After having been guest professor in Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen and Braunschweig, he was professor of painting at the HfBK in Dresden from 2004 to 2018. The self-taught artist and representative of the Neue Wilde often worked with pastel chalks. The delicate color medium seems to fit well with Bömmel's themes of fairy tales, childhood and dream worlds, which he depicts in his works and places in empty spaces and surfaces.
