With fantastic expanses outside the window, Jansson was early inspired by the power and colors of nature and felt a strong drive to recreate this through his art. In 1941 he started at Otte Sköld's painting school in Stockholm, leaving behind agriculture, fishing and carpentry work at Blidö. The studies then continued at the Stockholm School of Art and he debuted for the Swedish audience at the Lilla Paviljongen in 1949.
