Teng's family business of refining marble stones on the eastern coast of Taiwan cultivated his understanding of rocks and its properties. Combining his artistic training and studies on light and shading techniques from Western art, Teng creates meticulously stylised imageries of stones and scholar's rocks. In the present work, Teng employs a cun brushstroke with a Pointillist-like technique that employs a finer brush to create textured brushstrokes in a rubbing motion.
