Toni Stadler went to Berlin in 1909 to the studio of August Gaul in order to study animal sculpture. He had contact with the circle around Max Liebermann and Paul Cassirer. From 1925 on he spent two years in Paris, where he studied in particular with Aristide Maillol, but he also studied the ancient sculpture of the Egyptians, Etruscans and Greeks which impressed Stadler very much. Toni Stadler went to Berlin in 1909 to the studio of August Gaul in order to study animal sculpture. He had contact with the circle around Max Liebermann and Paul Cassirer. From 1925 on he spent two years in Paris, where he studied in particular with Aristide Maillol, but he also studied the ancient sculpture of the Egyptians, Etruscans and Greeks which impressed Stadler very much. Upon his return to Munich in 1927, he devotes himself especially to the creation of small-scale sculpture and portrait heads.
